·         Red Ribbon Week (Drug Awareness Week) Oct. 29 – Nov. 2

Monday:  Pajama Day

Tuesday:  Crazy Hair Day

Wednesday:  Red Day: Wear as much red as possible!

Thursday:  Inside Out Day (wear clothes inside out)

Friday:  Extreme Ellis Spirit Day (wear lots of Ellis colors: pink, gray, blue)

·         Donation of Candy:  If you would like to donate a bag of candy for classroom rewards/prizes for reading, homework, good behavior, etc. I would greatly appreciate it.  All of the Halloween candy will be on clearance soon. J

TECHNOLOGY AND IDAHO HISTORY

Our class has started creating our Power Point slide show project.  We are making slides for each chapter we are studying in Idaho History.  This is an on-going project, and students will share their finished projects with you in the spring.

READING & LANGUAGE SKILLS FOR NEXT WEEK’S STORY

STORY:  Tanya’s Reunion

COMPREHENSION SKILLS & STRATEGIES:

Making Inferences:  Readers use clues from the author and experiences from their own lives to make inferences about story characters.

To make inferences, think about your own experiences and relate it to what you have read about the character.

STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS/VOCABULARY:  A word root is part of a word that has meaning but cannot stand alone. Prefixes and suffixes are added to word roots.

spect means "to look at"

sign means "a sign or mark"

LANGUAGE:  Singular and Plural Nouns

VOCABULARY WORDS:  gathering, homestead, arrangements, reunion, persisted, pitches in, satisfaction, great-uncle

WRITING:  character sketch and run-on sentences

MATH SKILLS ADDRESS NEXT WEEK

•   answer and write comparison questions about a pictograph and bar graph

•   use a table to create horizontal and vertical bar graphs

Dear Parents,

IMPORTANT  INFORMATION

*                     Our 4^th graders have been invited to attend the ISU Symphony on Oct. 24^th.  Please sign and return the attached permission slip.  We will not be able to have parent volunteers go with us because of the limited seating.  There will be 4th graders from the entire district there.

*                     Ellis is having a Book Fair next week in the library.  Please see the flyer in your child’s homework folder.  I am sending home Scholastic Book order forms for the month of October.  If you can’t make it to the book fair, then you may find something in the book order.  If you want an item as a gift, just let me know and I can hold it back for you until you have time to pick it up.  Book orders will be due by Monday, Oct. 22^nd.  Make checks payable to Scholastic Books.  If you want to order on-line, our class code is HCWNC.  I will be sending home two more orders before Christmas.

*                     Our class is having our AR Party on Monday after lunch.  The students may bring board games and a snack to eat. 

*                     PTA is sponsoring a “Family Reading Night” on Thursday, Oct. 18^th from 5:30-7:00.

*                     A huge thank you to the wonderful parents who helped with our first art lesson.  We painted portfolios which will hold all of our art projects.  They look great!

*                     GRANDPARENTS AND GRANOLA: Grandparents are invited to come and read with their grandchild while they snack on granola. 

o                  Grandparents (last names beginning with A-M) come on Oct. 16 from 8:30-9:00

o                  Grandparents (last names beginning with N-Z) come on Oct. 17 from 8:30-9:00
