 Red Ribbon Week (Drug Awareness Week)

• Monday: Say “BOO!” to drugs! Wear orange and black clothes.
• Tuesday:  SOCK-IT to drugs!  Wear crazy socks.
• Wednesday:  TEAM up against drugs! Wear sports or team gear.
• Thursday:  REDy to be drug free! Wear as much red as possible.

·         Donation of Candy:  If you would like to donate a bag of candy for classroom rewards/prizes for reading, homework, good behavior, etc. I would greatly appreciate it.  All of the Halloween candy will be on clearance soon. J

STORY:  Tanya’s Reunion

COMPREHENSION SKILLS & STRATEGIES:

Making Inferences:  Readers use clues from the author and experiences from their own lives to make inferences about story characters.

To make inferences, think about your own experiences and relate it to what you have read about the character.

PHONETICS:  A word root is part of a word that has meaning but cannot stand alone. Prefixes and suffixes are added to word roots.

spect means "to look at"

sign means "a sign or mark"

LANGUAGE:  Singular and Plural Nouns

VOCABULARY WORDS:  gathering, homestead, arrangements, reunion, persisted, pitches in, satisfaction, great-uncle

WRITING:  character sketch and run-on sentences

v  THANKS to our wonderful parents for a GREAT ART MOMS & DADS lesson!  The students loved it!!

v  Donation of Candy:  If you would like to donate a bag of candy for classroom rewards/prizes for reading, homework, good behavior, etc. I would greatly appreciate it.  All of the Halloween candy will be on clearance soon. J

v  Wednesday: Put a CAP on drugs!  Wear a cap to school.

v  Thursday:  We are too BRIGHT to do drugs! Wear something bright.

v  Friday:  Show your Ellis pride by being drug free!  Wear Ellis colors: gray, blue, pink

Dear Parents,

IMPORTANT  INFORMATION

·                     NEW AR GOALS HAVE STARTED:  I have attached a note with your child’s new AR reading range and his/her new AR point goal for this 6 weeks. 

·                     This is a wonderful site for finding AR levels and point values for books you may have at home.  www.arbookfind.com   

·                     Help us win the parent portal contest! The class with the most parents logged into parent portal this current year will win a frozen yogurt party.  Please help us win!!  Go to the school district web site and log in to parent portal.  If you need a GUID #, please contact the office.

·                     McTeacher's night is Tuesday, October 15th 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Chubbuck McDonald's at 4260 Yellowstone Ave.  Fourth grade teachers will be there between 6:00 and 7:00. A portion of the sales will be donated to Ellis Elementary School.

·                     PTA is sponsoring a “Family Reading Night” on Tuesday, Oct. 22^nd

·                     GRANDPARENTS AND GRANOLA: Grandparents are invited to come and read with their grandchild while they snack on granola. 

o   Grandparents (last names beginning with A-M) come on Oct. 23 from 8:30-9:00
