Dear Parents,

We had a wonderful time on our field trip to Swore Farm!!  I hope you are enjoying the red potatoes.  A BIG THANK YOU to the parent volunteers who helped on our field trip and at the carnival.  The carnival was a HUGE success.  We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated PTA board and members. 
The Standards singing group performed for us on Thursday.  The students loved them.   What a great experience for them!
·        Spelling Test next Wed., Oct. 5th.
·        Homework is due by next Wed., Oct. 5th.
·        No School next Thursday and Friday, Oct. 6-7: State-wide in-service Days
·        Conferences/Open House will be on Oct. 20th.  Scheduling notes will come home on Oct. 14th.


THIS WEEK’S HOMEWORK:


·          Math:  “Drops In The Bucket” #29

·          Language:  “Drops In The Bucket” Lesson C5
·         Reading: read 15-30 minutes every night and fill in your reading log.  Remember to return daily because this is part of your reading grade!

WEEKEND NEWS
September 23, 2011

ELLIS MOTTO:   “I AM RESPONSIBLE AND ALWAYS LEARNING!!!”

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
  • FIELD TRIP ON WEDNESDAY:  If you have not done so, please sign and return the field trip permission slip as soon as possible.  Voluntary donations of 1-can of food per person will be accepted at the farm from those who wish to participate in the Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers food drive.  Students will need to bring a sack lunch. They may purchase one from school or bring a sack lunch from home.  We will need a lunch count by Monday.  Students need to dress for the weather and wear closed toed shoes (such as sneakers). 
  • THANK YOU!!!!  We have our art moms and our carnival help!  Mrs. Lish and Mrs. Whitehead have agreed to be our art moms. Thanks for the bags of suckers for our carnival. You are wonderful parents!!
  • CARNIVAL ON MONDAY from 5:30-7:30:  The PTA has worked all summer long to bring you this wonderful family event.  We hope to see you at the carnival!! 
  • Our class is in 2nd place for the PTA membership drive.  Join PTA and help us win a party from Kiwi Loco!!
  • THE STANDARDS singing group will be here on Thursday for the 3rd - 5th grade classes.  They have performed at Ellis 3 times in the past and we have loved them.  The students are in for a real treat.

“WEEKEND NEWS”

Dear Parents,



·         Our 4th Graders will be going to Swore Farm on Wednesday, Sept. 28th.  We will leave at 8:40 and return at 1:45.  Please sign and return the attached permission slip.  Students will need to bring a sack lunch or order one from school. This field trip is sponsored by Bannock County Farm Bureau.  Thank you Farm Bureau.  We need 2 volunteers to go with us.  If you are interested, please call or send a note to school.

·         I’m sending home a set of Book Orders.  You may order out of any or all of them.  You will only need to write one check for all the book orders.  You can make checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs.  The orders will be due back to school by Friday, September 23rd.   You may also order on-line.  Please read the attached letter for directions.

·         Our classroom is in need of 7 more volunteers to help out with the Carnival on Monday, Sept. 27th.  Available times are 6:00-6:30 (1 slot), 6:30-7:00 (2 slots), 7:00-7:30 (2 slots), and 7:30-8:00 (2 slots).  Please contact me if you are able to help out. PLEASE SEND IN A BAG OF SUCKERS FOR THE CARVNIVAL SUCKER TREE.

·         Our class is in 3rd place for the PTA membership drive.  Join PTA and help us win a party from Kiwi Loco!!
·         Our class is still looking for a parent to volunteer to be our classroom art mom or dad.  This takes about 3 hours of work each month:  1 hour for prep time, 1 hour to teach the lesson, and 1 hour to display the works of art.  All supplies and lesson plans are provided by the PTA.  Let me know if you are interested!!

·         Order forms are attached if you would like to order a new Ellis t-shirt.

·         I will try and have the Weekend News ready to go via e-mail next Friday for those of you who have signed up for e-mail.  I will be sending home a test    e-mail next week. Please respond to the test e-mail so that I know you are able to receive the messages and open up the letter attachments.

“WEEKEND NEWS”

Dear Parents,

            I am looking forward to an exciting year with your child.  Our first week together has been fun.  Our class already feels like a family.  This is going to be a great year!
            Parents are always welcome in our room.  Come and visit whenever you can.  If you would like to eat lunch with your son or daughter, we eat from 12:25-1:00. 
            If you would like to volunteer, please contact me as soon as possible.   I would love the help!!  I will try and make a parent volunteer schedule in the next week or so.  Call 237-4742 or thompsde@sd25.us .
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
·         If a student receives less than 70% on a classroom or homework assignment, he/she may correct the assignment and turn it in to be re-graded.  The final grade will be an average of the two grades.  It is the student’s responsibility to re-do the work and turn it in.
·         Please send back the attached e-mail information sheet as soon as possible.  If you would like correspondence via e-mail, I will send my weekly letters that way.  I will first send a trial letter to make sure you can all receive my messages.  For those of you who want paper correspondence, I will send the letters in your child’s Friday Homework Folder.  
·         I will start sending home AR Home Reading Logs starting next Tuesday when library classes begin.  Students will need to return the logs each day.  The logs will be part of their reading grade.  They will be expected to read 15-30 min. each night.
